Walk To The Start Of Hamanatua Stream

This week, we went to the start of Hamanatua stream. We started by walking to Scarlys way. When we finally got to Scarlys way, we went through a gate which lead to a small stream that wasn't connected to the Hamanatua. It was too long to jump, so we had to walk on a narrow plank. I kind of made it because only one of my shoes got wet. But the bad thing was, they were my two-hundred dollar shoes! The funny thing was that Rio threw Lola's bag and it fell in the water, it was soaked. Also, Tre tried to get a run up and leap but he slipped on the plank and fell in the water. It was hilarious, even though I felt bad for Tre.

After that incident, we continued. It was pretty rough, it was really muddy and slippery and my shoes got so muddy.(fortunately, after school Jandre helped me clean my shoes.) I was so unlucky when mud was sticking to my shoes and starting to build up, because it was so heavy. We had a break at a purere tree and had some kai. I had a pretty bad lunch, but I did have some nutella bread sticks, which I quickly ate. Soon after, we had our kai, we continued. We saw a calf that was resting, which I thought was dead; Everyone was exhausted, we had been walking for so long, Past the slippery mud and the steep climbs. Finally, we made it. After all the time that we spent travelling here, we made it.

When we turned back, and were back to where the calf was, Koka Rozie checked if it was alive. Turns out that it was alive, and it was scared! It quickly hopped away and to the safety of it's mother. Then we walked back. it was very easy because it was only down hill. When we made it to the start again, I didn't try to jump because I knew I wouldn't make. So I just jumped in and slowly walk across.(At least it cleaned my shoes.) All of us then walked back to school.

Maths Workshop T3 W3

This week, I was in a maths workshop. We were learning about decimals, and how to use place value to solve equations. We started out by picking some random one digit numbers, with only the tenths column in use for decimals. We picked two different numbers and we had to minus or plus, let me explain. We pick one number that is greater and one that is less, so we take away a certain amount, until the greater number is equal to the lower number. Or, we add to the lower number until it is equal to the greater number.

 Next, we were going to do two digit numbers. Koka Rozie picked two people to pick a random two digit number. Also we were going to add hundreths to our number to make it more hard. Honestly, I think the maths we were doing was too easy for me but I still gave it a go. I easily completed the equation and and the workshop was over so I packed my stuff and left. I think I should be moved up because i'm nailing my maths workshops, don't you think?

The Olympic Booklet

This week, we are doing research about the Olympics, we are recording some of our research in booklets. We are doing this because of the Tokyo Olympics, which began on Friday 23rd of July 2021, and will end on Sunday 8th of August. We started out by colouring in the Olympic rings and showing what they represent, like the blue ring represents Europe, the yellow ring Asia, the black ring Africa, also the green one is Australia or Oceania and the red ring is America. (The funny thing about the Tokyo olympics is that they named it the Tokyo Olympics 2020 but we are in 2021!) Then we did a complicated Olympic fact file, let me explain, we had to research the questions that were on the sheet, and write the answer under it.

On the next page, I had to draw a picture of my favourite kiwi athlete. I had to write down their date of birth, age, hometown, sport, first Olympics and achievements. I also had to do a biography (someone's life written by someone else). The person I chose to be my favourite, was Peter Snell, he won the eight-hundred and one thousand-five-hundred metre running races. He won three Olympic gold medals!. Next, we had to write a medal table and write down ten different countries. After that, there were even more questions that needed to be answered, so I started researching. Finally for the last one I did some drawing. I had to draw anime, manga, kawaii and k-pop. I started with k-pop, I just wrote BTS  k-pop and moved on to kawaii. I did a potato with a derpy face. We are going to be writing and researching in this Olympic booklet for one or two weeks. Overall, I'm enjoying studying the Olympics. Who knows, maybe someone will be researching me one day?

Maths Workshops T2 W8

 This week, on thursday, I went to a maths workshop. We did division with sushi, let me explain, One roll of sushi has 8 pieces, and 4 pieces go in one box so all we had to do is first, Times the first number by eight, and then get the answer and finally, divide it by four. But, I have a more efficient method of doing it. Half of four is two so you just have to half the number twice e.g. six times eight equals forty-eight, forty-eight divided by two equals twenty-four, twenty-four divided by two equals twelve. It was hard at the start, but when I got that Idea, I cruised through them. The easiest equation was zero times eight, I just had to write down zeros.

It also helped sharpen my eight times tables and helped give me a good method when dividing by four.

We had some more equations like seven times eight equals fifty-six, fifty-six divided by two equals twenty-eight, twenty-eight divided by two equals fourteen. When we finished,I was very happy because I had learnt a good strategy when dividing by four which could help me in intermediate.

LTP 2 T2 W6

On wednesday, term 2 week 6 we did more wood burning with Koka rozie. We quickly got into the rules and we were off, I carefully started by shaping out my wood with my wood knives and making it more clean, while also being careful with them. I saw Koka terri with her baby and she was adorable, Koka rozie cracked up when I said that a small stick was the babies weight and she was working out.

 I was almost done with my piece of wood and then the bell rang and we had to pack up, I was playing with Koka terri's baby for most of the time but it was pretty fun.

Jago was trying to get a piece of wood to look like a spear head and glue it to a straight stick, other people had different ideas like a sword and a knife, but I thought jago's spear was better. I got some shine cards, two for cleaning up and one for being respectful on the mat.

Learning Through Play T2 W4

Last tuesday we did ltp, and I went to woodburning. But this time, I brought wood knives ( I had a kit to carry them of course or my bag would be ruined), when we sat down, I quickly put my wood knife kit on a table then sat down. Koka Jo told everyone the rules and who was going to use the woodburners first and she also mentioned how I brought some wood knives and I told everyone very specifically that you had to ask before use them, second, Make the tip face the way a soft foam piece in the kit so the kit doesn't get scratched. Last, you had to use one at a time and put them in the kit, not on the table.

Before we even started people started asking, I said yes and I sat down at a table people started surrounding me so I just said only a few people at a time. I started by getting a flat one so I could scrape all the extra pieces of wood off and make my driftwood more clean looking, also some people were not doing what I told them, they were not placing my wood knives on the foam side so I decided to give each person 3 warnings and if they break the rules to many times they would restricted to use them(I said that only to scare them I wouldn't actually do that).

 My wood knives came in all shapes and sizes(they didn't come in all shapes and sizes but I still had ten to choose from). when we had to pack up, I rounded up everyone who use the wood knives and told them to come help pick up the small pieces of shaved wood and put them away. When everyone finally came, hunter had already cleaned the table.

Little Blue Penguin Forms

A few weeks ago, MLH went around moana road and douglas. We went around putting forms in peoples mailboxes so we could find out if they had seen any little blue penguins, where they spotted them and when they saw them. We went into three group and went through douglas and moana road continuously sliding them in the mailboxes, we had two forms each that we had to hand out and when we ran out Koka Ngaire gave us Two more. But soon we ran out and couldn't give any more forms, so we decided to head back to school. It was pretty fun going out and putting forms in mailboxes, I even got to go past my parents store (which is the okitu store).

most of the people signed the form (except the people who didn't get one because we never did another walk) so we got a ton of forms that someone had to check.

Interland

 This week we were digi digging and were learning to keep safe online by playing interland. Its a game about learning to keep safe online, stopping cyberbullies, being kind online, have a strong password that hackers won't be able to unlock to keep your personal information secure and not falling for scams that are too good to be true. We had to be in a group with our blogging buddies so I was in a group with Lola, we went into kind kingdom, where bullies were sending bad messages to other people, so we had to give them good comments and we had to jump from one floating island to another and if we made enough people happy, a pole with a platform would come up and you could jump from it to the floating island that was unreachable.

Their were also other places called Mindful Mountain,Tower of Treasure, Reality River and Kind Kingdom which I've already mentioned. But we had to do Kind kingdom because Koka Ngaire said we have to, and there were also microphones that you could use to report bullies and remove them, there were also traps that you had to use to trap the bullies, some said "No fair." and "Keep you kindness to yourself." It took quite a while to get to the end but there was more questions, we had to fill in the sentences to make the sentences full and also not make them bad. At the end, there was an enormous bully that you had to turn into a good person, by making everyone happy and them sharing their happiness with the bully to make him happy and to make him stop bullying. When we finished we had to do a flipgrid on what we learnt, I recommend other people play this game so they can learn how to be better online.

How to carry your chromebook posters

On Tuesday, 2021 term 2 week 1, we did a big think poster on how to carry your chromebook and how to stay cybersmart on it, but you could only choose one. I chose how to carry your chromebook, and you also had to do it with a partner, so I teamed up with Taimana and we came up with a simple but great idea (you will find out later in this blog). Most people did how to carry a chromebook and I didn't know if our idea would be good but it was pretty straightforward, our poster said "Forklift hold, is the right way to hold."

There was a picture of me, forklift holding my chromebook and also a forklift next to me. When we took it to Koka Ngaire she said it was great and she even printed it out! But ours wasn't the best it was Momo and Cash's poster, on their poster I saw a big picture of Momo doing the forklift carry. But ours was still an honourable mention. Altogether there were five posters that were printed including our poster, now they are in our classes, to remind us how we should carry our chromebooks and how to stay cybersmart on them.

Cooks Cove walk

After a long drive we finally reached Cooks Cove, when we came to the entrance, Koka ngaire cover some ground rules for safety, and she also put us in groups with different parents. Then the climb started, at the start climbing wasn't that hard, we just had to walk up some stairs but soon after it started to get difficult. It became more steeper and more people were huffing and puffing very frequently, but just then we made it to the Beacon of Light, was was a large structure representing Cooks arrival. there was concrete that went 12 metres deep into the earth to hold it in place.

I sighed in relief but there was way more walking then i had hoped for, we kept on walking uphill until we reached downhill. i spilt some of my water on the dry ground, the thirsty ground quickly drank up the water. Downhill was much less tiring than going uphill, everyone quickly ran down the steep hills and we made it to the porta-potty and surprisingly only the boys had to go. From their I could see the end of cooks cove I patiently but excitedly waited until everyone was out. After everyone came out we made it to the end of cooks cove. But their was still the journey back.

we sat down and ate our food, after we ate our food we went back to the porta-potty where there was a picture frame.

The Fantastic Week 13

 This week on Wednesday, we went to the Kapa Haka festival, it was quite interesting. First we got our mokos on, Fly put ink on the tracer and put it on our cheeks, also we took off our t-shirts and sweatshirts and our socks, shoes and our pants because we put on skirts. We left the nametags on the table, we got the skirt from and put our socks and shoes there too. I was trying really hard not to touch my moko and I didn't touch it because I didn't want it to smudge, but it was extremely itchy, I resisted. 

Then the bus arrived, I got in. It was really cramped, so three people had to sit on one seat even though 2 people could fit on it, it was hard but I managed to stay comfortable. On the way there we sang our waitas and the haka too. We also did the songs that we sang last year, we also saw an extensive golf court it was colossal, what was surprising was that the kapa haka festival was going on right beside the golf court. So we made it there, it was exciting. we came out and went to the grass to go to the toilet in the porta potties. We also practiced a little bit too.

When we were ready we went inside and waited, when it was our turn we stepped up on the stage, the crowd went wild. We got in our rows and started singing. We sang beautifully and at the end of our waita they cheered loudly. Then we did a haka, it was strong the crowd was impressed, when we did our last song the boys went to where the audience was. The boys sang still, and the girls went down too, at the end we watched the other kids do their performance and went in the bus and went back to school.

The Fantastic Week 12

This week is I got some good news, the craft fairs coming up! It's going to be extraordinarily exciting and also immensely fun too. I just can't wait, i've been to the craft fair a couple of times but it's still fun after years of celebrating it. They have lots of fun games like cow pat bingo which is when people pay money and wait for the cow to poop on a square they bought and whichever square it lands on first means that the person who bought the square wins lots of prizes. There is also lots of other things like food drinks and a whole lot of other entertaining games, like prizes dip where you put your hand in a mystery box and pull out a random prize.

Also there is some inflatable bubbles that you use to ram people down and, there is no points and it is only for fun. You can also by drinks from the soda van, they sell sprite, coke, lift and a big variety. Waffles are also for sale with chocolate sauce and whipped cream(which is mouth-watering). They have bouncy castles too, and a game where the kids are moles trying to steal all the balls from the bopper. The bopper bonks you on the head with a hammer to try to stop you from stealing all the balls, also if the kids get all the balls they win.

There is also a festival coming soon, it is called diwali. Most indians celebrate it and they light lots of lamps and light fireworks and celebrate and eating lots of sweets,Diwali is called the Festival of Lights and is celebrated to honor Rama-chandra, the seventh avatar (incarnation of the god Vishnu). It is believed that on this day Rama returned to his people after 14 years of exile during which he fought and won a battle against the demons and the demon king, Ravana. 

The Fantastic Week 11

This week has been incredible. The year 6's were sent to camp and all the year 5's and 4's stayed, while they were gone we practiced kapa haka and athletics. It was quieter without the year 6's, we saw them in photos and were they were.They were at a napier prison observing and exploring, also they went to white pine bush and the napier pā (village). They went to the arataki honey factory and got some honey and a thick strip of beeswax which they used to make a beeswax candle.

When they were going to sleep, they went to their cabins which they shared with a buddy or two. I'm sure they were having lots of fun at camp as it was expensive, it was two hundred dollars per student. For breakfast they would eat weet-bix or peanut butter on toast, and for lunch they would have a brownie or a muffin and an apple or an orange. They were at camp for about four days.

In the end they came back at around 7:30 and everything was back to normal, when we did our hakas and waitas they were louder and stronger, which was great as it was going to be the kapa haka festival soon, it was great with the year 6's back. Camp was done for them but not for the year 4's and 5's, I can't wait to go to camp because it sounds very fun.

The Fantastic Week 10

 This week is fun and exciting, lots of stuff has happened. On the first day, we were not doing any priorities and we were moving all the furniture into the hall. We took all the furniture and left nothing, I didn't know why we were moving to the hall but I soon realized that their was some builders in mlh (moana learning hub), People told me that mlh was going to be renovated.

On the second day, we went to pihitia station to see what they did to make money, set traps and shear sheep. When we were at school a bus came, we walked in and the bus driver drove us their. When we got there we got out of the bus and walked into the farm, we met some people, they told us the safety rules and what not to do. Then they showed us how to round up sheep, we start out walking along the corners and made them run into the other paddocks, when we got them in they were weighed.

After that, a woman got two dogs and made them round up the sheep, then we went to a tv with a drone camera someone drove the drone and found a dummy under a quad bike, I knew it wasn't a dummy so I told him "this is not a real person." and then he told us that it was a set up and he showed us some gadgets. After we had some food and we went to another room where someone told us about all the pests in nz and he showed us some traps And one even had a rabbit and a mouse in it.

Finally we went to our final destination the butchery, where we saw how they cut up meat and how much money they got. The butcher told us all about meat and what was the most expensive, He told us he was a butcher for 40 years! When we went in to the bus and we got back to school. It was interesting to see what they did at Pihitia farm.

The Fantastic Week 9

 This week at ltp (learning through play) I went to planet construction with Ben. First we came out of our classes, we got in and sat patiently, then we went to play. We used some plastic things and they slipped together, it was pretty fun and Ben made a totem of undying from minecraft but he said it was a better version of it. It had four arms with emerald eyes it was just like a normal one except it looked different

Then Noa made cubes made of purple pieces, They had holes through them so Noa put them on his fingers like rings, and Tay was also making a totem of undying too, but his was the normal one. Then Ben hit it which made its head come of, I got it and gave it to someone. I was making a long green line using the pieces and I put them into Ben's one, and it made it huge. Also when he tilted it to the side it slowly fell over.

After we were talking and Ben built a pedestal for his totem of undying so it wouldn't fall over, and for style.

Ben was really impressed with his creation, it was pretty good. Tay's totem of undying was really good too,

Noa's rings were almost longer than his fingers. Finally we were going to pack up so we put our stuff in the wip (work in progress) corner and we packed up. It was fun playing with Ben, so we went back to our classes.

Quick-Fire-Write 2

 Why is littering so bad: Littering is not good because it makes local parks and cities look unclean, and it is harmful to wildlife. Litter can also end up in the ocean, which can be extremely harmful to marine life. most societies believe it is wrong to litter so you could pay a fine. Littering can also decrease land and marine animals. Also if you burn litter like plastic it could make a smoke toxic to you and other animals which could also decrease the animal population. 82

who do you think is responsible for picking up litter, and why: I think that we should all pick up rubbish and we shouldn't litter too, if we pick up rubbish and don't litter we could save lots of different species from extinction. If you drop rubbish make sure you remember to pick it up and put it in the trash bin. 50

where would you like to organise a litter pick up in your local area, and why: I would like to organise it in town because lots of people go there, and there would probably be lots of rubbish around. I would also want to have one on the beach so rubbish doesn't go in the ocean because it could help the environment. Also it helps balance the amount of rubbish. 53

how could people be encouraged to litter less in your local area: We could encourage them by telling them what could happen if we continue to litter then they might understand and they will spread the word about the risks or littering and it might even be spread around the globe. We could also have prizes for the cleanest cities, It would help a lot.53

The Fantastic Week 8

This week I have been doing some interesting stuff, this week I went to the online chess tournament, it was very fun. First we had to get onto it, so we spent some time signing in and Koka Ngaire said to me I owed her a chocolate fish for her helping me sign in. After, we signed in I was challenged by someone, I joined and then the match started. 

I started out moving my pawns then it was my opponent's turn they took a while to move, so I waited, and waited until they got stuck in a corner. I was excited, it was kind of easy, so next round I was hoping for a harder opponent. It wasn't long until the next opponent came.

A few hours later I had got four wins, that was when Oliver's dad bought us some pizza we were very happy and we ate and played until the pizza was gone. Finally after that, we took the desks back into their class and went back to our classes. It was fun playing chess and it was also very interesting.

 The Fantastic Week 7

This week, I went to makey makey to create something Electrical. I started out choosing a buddy, I chose Anroux. Because he knew lots about makey makey. When we got our kit we plugged it into my chromebook and got the alligator clips, I went on a makey makey piano and every time me and Anroux fist bumped each other the piano made noise. When I held both I could tap one and the sound would still come. I don't think the electricity went through our hands because normally it would electrocute you.

Then we did makey makey bongos, there was only two bongos so we got one each and plugged an alligator clips into earth. We held two alligator clips each and tapped our clips, we made a song and it was pretty nice. Next day we got a bee-buggy and made a track. It was pretty cool. But then we went to Ella and made a human piano. I was part of the human piano, and every time they pressed us the piano made a sound. Finally we packed up, I helped with the bee-buggy and a makey makey. Then we went to our classes.

The Fantastic Week 6

This week has been a little different, I went back to planet construction and played with the magnet tiles. I got all the large squares and I also got all of the mini squares, I was helping Kale'a by giving her lots of squares. Then I talked about a game and, surprisingly she knew about it to. So we talked and talked while also making our creations.

After, Kale'a finished her creation and Nathan came and had lots of magnet tiles. So we had a competition to see who had the tallest pile, I did and Nathan tried everything to try to get his tower higher. But nothing worked, when it was pack up time Kale'a gave me her creation, but Nathan broke it and got most of the pieces and his was higher. I did not accept defeat because if I had enough time I could make my tower taller with the pieces kale'a gave me.

The Fantastic Week 5

The Fantastic Week 5

This week has almost finished but it's a great and exciting one, so much has happened. On the first day of school koka Ngaire introduced us to maths-whizz, it was fun and we still did math. It was like prodigy, but their was more math than play, but maths-whizz was still very fun, everyone played and we had to get a full crystal to make our very own avatar.F or every level we completed we got rewarded 30 credits, we used credits to buy pets,pet food, accessories, furniture and to play games.

When it was learning through play, I decided to play at planet construction. When I walked through the front door, I rushed to the giant lego pieces and then. Me, Tay, Oliver, William and Wolfe made a giant tower of lego, it was almost taller than William. But it was falling down a couple of times, so Oliver got an idea, we had to build around it like we were re enforcing it. We used every last piece to make it more stable, even though it still could fall it stood up long enough for koka Leah to take a photo of it. After she took a picture we broke it down.
